A Arte da Terracotta Napoletana. Neapolitan traditional art of "terracotta" by Marco Ferrigno

ENGLISH

In one of my travels, I came across a very interesting kind of craftsmanship that is so different from many others I've seen before because it has a unique style in the production of terracotta* sculptures.

In the city of Naples, in Italy, there is the art of giving life to many characters, not just Italians, but also well-known personalities in the world. It was in this city that I knew the art of Ferrigno's family, they are an example of that tradition can be maintained and shaped by modernity, without losing the magic of a past that has made history.

It all began in 1836, when Mr. Nicola Ferrigno began his activities involved in the restoration of sculptures of shepherds. But the work soon took an artistic connotation in the generation of Giuseppe, who was without doubt the most important phase. Giuseppe was a brilliant artist very excited by the fantasy that the world offers us, and his genuine nature and creative helped him to produce some truly amazing pieces. In 1980, his son Marco has added a refined touch to his innovative and artistic heritage. And together, they achieved the category of the best experts in the art of terra-cotta in the world. And it is precisely to build the classic Neapolitan crib that they display their special because they have the opportunity to combine tradition and artistic innovation. We can translate this whole story in one word: SUCCESS. For their works they have received international awards and their art is now in differrent countries, as the pieces already produced for the king of Spain.

Ferrigno's family says his inspiration is due to the immense heritage of suggestions that the past and the actual days bring to us. But with only one statement, they stressed that using the tips to create, develop and improve the sculptures, but never imitate them. And what attracts most attention in the style of Ferrigno's is the fact that their works are made with a sensibility to express the beauty and modernity reflected in the past.

All this is a demonstration that it is true that artists draw pleasure from the beauties of the world, absorb all that gives us better, create your environment, bring joy, imagination and enjoyment for all. Because they have the freedom to create, transform, enhance and so give us the joy of pure art.
